Good morning backers!
One of the things we want to do better is communication, with the backers, even when there’s not much new. I realize that it’s important to you that I reach out and let you know where things stand, even if they’re standing in the same spot. So here’s a short update about the status of the class decks that you have so patiently been waiting for.
My writers have finished the Rogue and Sorcerer deck and, honest answer, we've hit the same snag as before. Lack of funding. Although the source lore and mechanics for those two decks is written, I have yet to receive it because we currently don’t have the funds to pay for it. The last two large Kickstarter projects SZG tried to launch, which would have funded this endeavor moving forward, did not reach their goals.
Yes, as I noted, SZG did take on new investors. The majority of extra funds they brought in went towards delivering existing finished products to backers. To that end, all US backers have now had their products delivered; we've made more headway in the last 6 months than we have in almost 2 years prior.
Yes, the intent is still there to deliver these decks, even with these financial setbacks. We continue to move forward with fun, simple and easy to deliver projects. We're going to conventions whenever feasible and earning money directly. We're collaborating with other project creators behind the scenes to earn funds helping them assemble their projects to avoid the pitfalls we have encountered.
We're making headway.
You'll see a good deal of content start coming out soon as we shift some of our upcoming profits directly into the class decks. We'll get the writing for these upcoming decks paid for and then in short order have the content edited and laid out in card format and exported into PDFs!
I apologize for the delay and ask you to please keep having patience as we keep making some of the most enjoyable gaming materials we can for everyone. Also, if you're missing PDF files for these class-based magic items and you’d like access to the first batch even if it was not in your main pledge level, please just PM me. I'll get you access as a gift for the long wait. I want to do everything I can to give something to use at your table, even if it’s via your own printer.

The Print and Play PDF version of the Ranger’s Tale class deck has been released on BackerKit for those with access to the file! If you're having issues, please let me know.

You’ll notice that the Ranger deck is now called “Ranger’s Tale” instead of “Deck of Outlandish Offerings.” Not only did that original title (made when alliteration was all the rage) not really have anything to do with the Ranger class, but we’ve wanted to bring the class deck project under the “Onward to Adventure” title for a while. All of the class decks are being renamed to focus on the highlighted class. It just makes much more sense AND gives a strong brand identity to the entire line!
The Rogue’s Tale deck is next in line; it’s currently in the works and we'll have more updates on that as we near a completion date. True, we're moving slower than we would like on this project, but that’s due to multiple reasons that we’ve been sharing with you along the way: first, there’s Session Zero Games’ refusal to compromise quality writing or design even with the huge amount of magic items to properly balance and write; then, of course, there’s been the big year of COVID making of mess of everything for everyone; plus, we have been admittedly shifting our time and resources to close out other projects and deliver them as promised to our loyal backers. But the quality of the “Onward to Adventure” class decks remain second to none. I know that by the time we're done you'll be able to hold our collection up against any other on the market and say it's the best. When Rogue’s Tale releases, we'll be making an expansion to all of the OtA decks that will be available for free to everyone, so please keep hanging in there with us!
State of the Company
As we’ve mentioned, a lot of big things have happened this year and we're starting to finally make positive headway at Session Zero Games! We've delivered over 600 more outstanding physical packages and have another 400 lined up to go out in the next 3 or 4 weeks thanks to new investors. These good folks joined the SZG team because they believe in the quality of the products and the direction that the company is heading. Not all small companies like ours have survived the COVID nightmare of 2020. But where many others have folded, SZG has continued swimming against the stream as best we can, looking for ways to deliver our qualities products to those who believed in us and pledged for them.
All of that effort is finally paying off.
By the time our next project launches we'll have shipped 1000 packages… and made zero profit this year. We’ve been using every penny we could muster (including personal finances and investors generosity) and we're now at the point where we can focus on putting something back into the company coffers so we can continue forward. We're hoping that by proving to you that we mean business - and we mean to do GOOD business for our backers - you'll consider taking a look at our upcoming project when it launches. To shore up some of the edges, we've been working with other companies when we can by lending our experience and expertise where it’s needed! An upcoming project that we'll be assisting with is tied to an amazing but tragic story. The original creator, Steven Collins - who was a normal guy just like me, with a family and personal life - sadly was overwhelmed by a combination of life's problems and the complications of a huge backlog on Kickstarter. His project was funded but fell on hard times, just like those of a lot of other small companies who try their hardest but sometimes struggle with life’s unseen complications.
Even with hundreds of supportive backers (though most were silent during his trials and tribulations), Steven sadly took his own life, leaving behind a family and network of friends. His closest friends took up his project and were able to deliver the rewards that had been sitting in his garage (as Steven had been unable to pay for the shipping and some other small inclusions). He never got to see the fruits of his labor.
So remember, as backers of multiple projects, that there are numerous companies really struggling right now, as we admittedly have the past year. Try to have some compassion and think about the human beings – and their families - behind these projects; they are out here stressing and busting their butts trying to make sure you get to enjoy the projects that you pledged for while they try to stay financially solvent delivering them. Understand that we DO know that you've given us your money and your trust, and we're doing everything we can to make sure you're satisfied. Even though things don't move along as fast as we all hoped at times, please know that we're here every day trying to figure out the magic behind the scenes for you.

Paladin PnP PDF FREE (pay what you want, even $0) on DTRPG!

You've been patient and I've been behind schedule on EVERYTHING that I've been working on.
You may have seen other updates on projects where I'm focusing on delivering products as fast as I can and I'm even taking in new investors that will be onboard soon so that we can try to patch the holes that have been showing in this ship for a while now.
I'm VERY excited about the future of Session Zero Games and part of that is because the Class Decks that we're producing are some of the coolest things I've ever seen anywhere and I'm not just saying that because I helped make them. The stories are excellent, the mechanics are wicked fun and the art goes miles towards enhancing the atmosphere of the games I've showed them off in.
I'm excited for you to use them.
With that in mind, I'm making this deck of magic items specifically made for the Paladin free to everyone via DriveThruRPG in the print and play PDF format. It's set up as a "Pay what you want" item so if you want to help out where you can then please input any amount at all to help out the cause. Otherwise, if you can't or don't want to help, I fully understand and just hope you input $0 and at least download a copy and tell us what you think of the product quality. Every bit of input helps!

The Monk Print and Play PDF is available now and the Paladin deck should be available shortly, it's undergoing some final checks before we put the PDF out :)
This update is to let everyone know that there are 3 ways to get your hands on a copy of the first "batch" of class decks in print and play format, which would be the first 6 decks as follows:
Barbarian
Bard
Cleric
Druid
Fighter
Monk
If you have pledged for Print and Play PDF files then you should check BackerKit where the new Monk deck has been uploaded and should be available for download. If you would prefer to download them through DTRPG please message me directly for a link that will give them to you for $0.
If you do not have access to the files via BackerKit please double check your pledge and make sure you have pledged to receive all Print and Play PDF files, if you did not you can find them massively discounted (only $20 for the entire set of 6 PnP PDF's) at the following websites:

Hello Backers!
I wanted to wait until I could say here are some links but this is just a short update to prep you, we're on the final steps and getting layouts coming for the Monk and Paladin decks they are the two that are almost done. We've been working simultaneously on 3 decks at a time due to writers availability and the funding that I have to shift from other projects back over into this one so we're behind where I wanted to be but we are making progress as I've said before.
Monk items!
Keep an eye out in the next week or two for the update with instructions on how to download the next two decks, we have most of the information in for the third deck as well but to stop the delay and get something in your hand I'm just going to go ahead and push forward the finished ones and get them out to you as soon as I can.
Paladin items!
